Mandya: The inflow into the Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) reservoir witnessed a sharp increase on Monday following heavy rainfall in the Cauvery basin catchment areas, bringing relief to farmers across the district. The inflow, which stood at a modest 1,881 cusecs on Oct 16, increased to 3,259 cusecs the following day. It subsequently rose to around 5,000 cusecs before declining to 2,330 cusecs on Oct 23. The trend reversed on Oct 24, with the inflow reaching 3,696 cusecs in the morning and increasing to 6,031 cusecs by evening. The upward trend continued on Monday (Oct 26) when the inflow surged to 11,264 cusecs, while the water level rose to 103.9 ft.The rise in inflow has brought cheer to the farming community, as improved water availability in the reservoir is expected to provide relief to agricultural activities in the region. Following the increase in inflow, the water level in the reservoir rose to 103.9 feet. However, the inflow remains considerably lower than that recorded during the corresponding period last year. At this time last year, the reservoir was receiving 30,079 cusecs of water. With the dam reaching its full reservoir level of 124.8 feet, the outflow stood at 29,822 cusecs. The latest increase in inflow has raised hopes of further improvement in the reservoir’s storage, depending on rainfall in the Cauvery basin catchment areas.Meanwhile, the inflow to Kabini dam in Mysuru district has also seen a jump for the last couple of days. On Monday, it was 7,329 cusecs, while the dam’s water level was recorded at 2,272.7 feet as against its maximum capacity of 2,284 feet.
