City police chief vows action against illegal cattle transport

Mangaluru: City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said police would act against every instance of cow slaughter or illegal cattle transport, while warning that stopping vehicles carrying legally permitted goods, or assaulting or intimidating those involved, would also amount to a criminal offence and could attract punishment up to 10 years. He was responding to a social media post by the Bajrang Dal, Shaktinagar, alleging that police had failed to stop illegal cattle transportation despite being informed.Reddy urged the public to inform police about such incidents. However, he said the meat had been purchased in Keralam and transported to a licensed shop in Mangaluru. While cow slaughter is prohibited in Karnataka, the sale and transport of legally permitted meat are allowed, the commissioner clarified.Police have received a complaint alleging that someone tried to stop the vehicle on Tuesday morning. “If the allegation is found to be true, a case will be registered against those responsible,” he said.
