Gurgaon: Population enumeration for Census 2027 will begin on Jan 25, with residents able to submit household details online from Jan 10. The 40-point questionnaire will cover demographic details, caste, religion, education, literacy, employment, disability, language, migration and fertility.Deputy commissioner Uttam Singh said the administration is preparing for the second phase and working on staff deployment, training and logistical arrangements. Enumerators will record information through a mobile application, while officials monitor progress through a centralised management system. The digital process is intended to improve monitoring, reduce data-entry errors and ensure completion within the prescribed timeframe. The first phase of Census 2027 has been completed across 51,907 house-listing blocks in the state, according to the Centre’s Oct 12 update. It covered houses, household amenities and assets. In Gurgaon, self-enumeration was scheduled for April 16-30, followed by house-listing and the housing census from May 1 to 30.For the population count, online self-enumeration will run from Jan 10 to 24, 2027, followed by door-to-door enumeration from Jan 25 to Feb 28. A revisional round from March 1 to 5 will identify omissions and correct discrepancies. The reference date is midnight on March 1, 2027. Even households that submit details online will be visited by enumerators for verification.Residents can use the self-enumeration portal, se.census.gov.in, to enter family details before the field exercise begins.“The online facility is an additional option, not a substitute for field enumeration. Enumerators will visit households that have completed self-enumeration as well, to verify their submissions under the prescribed procedure,” Singh said. The state is preparing to enumerate the population across about 70,000 blocks in 23 districts. The revisional round will help identify missed individuals or households and correct recorded information. The administration has urged residents to provide accurate details and cooperate with census personnel. The questionnaire will build a comprehensive demographic, social and economic profile of the population. It will seek details such as sex, date of birth, age, marital status and relationship with the household head, besides religion and caste, making caste enumeration a significant feature of the exercise.Questions on parents and spouses, disability, mother tongue and other languages known will establish social and linguistic profiles. Education-related questions will cover literacy, digital literacy, school or college attendance and the highest level of education attained. The employment section will cover work during the relevant period, occupation, industry or trade, worker category, people seeking or available for work, non-economic activities and travel to the workplace.Migration-related questions will examine place of birth, previous residence, reasons for moving, duration of stay at the current location and permanent residential address. Fertility-related questions will cover children born alive and surviving children, including births during the preceding year. Other prescribed particulars will include nationality and specified identification or personal details.Singh said the administration would aim for complete coverage across the district. Charge officers, master trainers, field trainers, enumerators and supervisors will receive phased training on the enumeration process, questionnaire, mobile application, work allocation, official guidelines and their responsibilities.Resident welfare associations have been asked to facilitate access to residential complexes and ensure household coverage. The administration will also conduct awareness activities, counter rumours and misleading information, and encourage participation in self-enumeration and door-to-door verification.Singh said protecting the confidentiality of personal information was mandatory. The exercise will follow the Census Act, 1948, and applicable rules, with safeguards to protect the information collected.
