Rescue operations underway on Thursday
Daltonganj: A 16-year-old girl, Sarita Kumari of Khajuri Naudeeha village, drowned in Bataney Dam under Naudeeha bazaar police station limits in Palamu on Wednesday.Police station in charge Niraj Kumar Singh said she had gone to a nearby health centre with her younger brother before visiting the dam, where she allegedly slipped into the water and was swept away.Her brother raised an alarm, prompting locals and divers to launch a search. Her body was recovered after five hours.Police registered an unnatural death case and ruled out foul play. Sarita’s family may receive Rs 4 lakh as ex gratia relief under the state’s drowning compensation scheme.
