Ludhiana: Two masked men barged into Gurdwara Manji Sahib at Rajoana Kalan near Jagraon early Wednesday and opened fire at the room of head sevadar Baldev Singh, who escaped unhurt as he was in the bathroom at the time. The attack came barely a day after a masked assailant fired at another gurdwara in Gagra village, prompting police to probe a possible link between the two incidents.Baldev Singh said he opened the gurdwara’s main gate around 3am and went to the bathroom attached to his room. Soon, he heard footsteps, followed by gunshots and shattering glass. He locked himself inside and emerged after the assailants had left to find a glass door shattered and bullet marks on a wall.Ludhiana (rural) SSP Ankur Gupta visited the spot Wednesday morning. An FIR was registered against unidentified persons at Sudhar police station, while CCTV footage showing the masked suspects is being examined.Granthi Kulwant Singh said he initially mistook the gunshots for firecrackers. When he stepped out, he spotted two suspects on the premises, but they fled before he could stop them.DSP (Dakha) Karan Singh Sandhu said police were investigating the motive and whether the attack had any connection with Tuesday’s incident at Gurdwara Sri Gopalsar Sahib in Gagra village. In that attack, a masked man had opened fire at the gurdwara and left a letter at its gate threatening the head sevadar and a local leader.
