Shibu Baby John criticises Arlekar’s call to remove PSC chairperson, members

Thiruvananthapuram: RSP senior functionary and forest minister Shibu Baby John has criticised the then governor Rajendra Arlekar’s recommendation to remove Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) chairperson and members. He also questioned Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) investigation against former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.John said that RSP did not agree with the governor’s move to recommend the mass removal of PSC members. He said such actions could undermine constitutional institutions.“It is unclear under which constitutional power the governor has recommended the removal of PSC members. The destruction of constitutional institutions through such moves cannot be accepted,” he said.On ED’s investigation against Vijayan, John alleged that the agency’s actions appeared politically motivated. He said the investigation had been largely ineffective for a long time and questioned why the central agency had remained inactive until now. The reasons behind its renewed intervention, despite not pursuing the matter effectively during the previous LDF govt, remained unclear, he added.Referring to the monthly pay-off controversy, John said the people had not elected UDF govt to simply act on the directions of the ED.The minister said the new govt can function only in accordance with constitutional principles and public sentiment rather than the political agendas of central investigative agencies.
