Kanpur: A 37-year-old employee of a private company died by suicide at his home in Rawatpur village on Sunday night. Family tension is suspected as the preliminary reason, police said.Prashant Shukla, who lived behind Ramlala temple, slit a vein in his hand and then called his cousin, asking him to attend his last rites the next morning. The cousin alerted Prashant’s elder brother, Ajay Shukla.Family members found Prashant lying in a pool of blood. His mother, Kanti, began dressing the wound while Ajay went to call a doctor. As his mother briefly left the room, Prashant locked the doors and hanged himself with a sari.Ajay said that Prashant had married Rakhi in 2014. The couple had two children, Kanak and Shivang. Following frequent quarrels over Prashant’s alcohol addiction, Rakhi moved to her parental home in Delhi with the children about two years ago.Family members said Prashant was deeply attached to Shivang and often asked his wife to let him speak to the child, but she allegedly refused. They also alleged that when Prashant visited his in-laws about three months ago, his wife beat both the children in his presence. He was distressed over separation from his children and family tension, they said.Rawatpur police station in-charge Kamlesh Rai said preliminary information suggested that Prashant ended his life because of family tension. Police and a forensic team collected evidence from the scene. Further action would be taken after a complaint was received from the family, he said.
