Nagpur: City-based Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) on Friday delivered its Nagastra-2 loitering munition system to Indian Army after the system cleared user trials in demanding electronic warfare (EW) conditions. The delivered units are in an advanced electronic counter-countermeasures (ECCM) configuration designed for contested battlefields. The system carries anti-jamming, anti-spoofing and multi-mode communication features, according to the company. Its onboard vision-based tracking and autonomous guidance allow it to engage both stationary and moving targets, even in GPS-denied environments. Operators can lock onto a target and carry out a precision strike with minimal intervention, the company stated. The munitions are fitted with an indigenously developed tandem anti-tank warhead that can defeat explosive reactive armour (ERA) and penetrate up to 650 mm of rolled homogeneous armour (RHA). The system has an operational range of over 25 km and a dual-sensor electro-optical payload that works by day and night. This allows it to detect, track and strike a range of targets, including armoured vehicles.Nagastra-2 completed technical trials at the Mahajan Field Firing Range (MFFR) in August. A board of officers constituted by Indian Army witnessed the demonstration of all operational requirements and ECCM performance parameters, which validated the system’s readiness for deployment, the company said.SDAL said the configuration gives the Army an indigenous loitering munition suited to modern electronic warfare, combining resilience against jamming with long-range strikes and anti-armour capability. The delivery comes a little over a week after SDAL supplied 450 Nagastra-1R short-range kamikaze drones to the Army. The company manufactures a range of drone-fired munitions under the Nagastra series. The company did not disclose the number of units delivered or the contract value.
