VIJAYAPURA: A woman allegedly conspired with a painter she befriended during her house renovation to murder her husband and pass off the killing as a road accident, police said. The woman, her alleged lover and two others, including a minor, have been arrested in connection with the case. The woman, Ashwini, and her husband, Rajshekhar Biradar, had been married for 10 years and have six-year-old twin sons. The family lived in Ekata Nagar in Vijayapura.According to police, the case initially appeared to be a road accident. Ashwini had told police that her 42-year-old husband was killed after an unidentified vehicle hit him while he was out on his morning walk between 5am and 5.30am on October 4.The incident was registered at Vijayapura traffic police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.However, investigators grew suspicious and began examining the circumstances surrounding his death.Vijayapura superintendent of police Laxman Nimbargi said the couple had built a new house around seven months earlier and hired Anand Rautappa Kallur, 25, to carry out the painting work. During his visits to the house, Kallur became acquainted with Ashwini, and the two allegedly developed a relationship.Police said Ashwini subsequently discussed killing her husband with Kallur, who allegedly agreed to the plan. The two are accused of conspiring to murder Rajshekhar and make his death appear to be an accident. As part of the alleged plan, Ashwini was to alert Kallur about her husband’s whereabouts when he went for his morning walk.On October 4, at around 5.30am, Rajshekhar left home for his walk and reached a road near a car showroom on Jumanal Road in Vijayapura. Ashwini allegedly informed Kallur about his location, following which he tracked Rajshekhar on his motorcycle and alerted his accomplices, police said.Acting on the information, Sachin and a minor allegedly arrived in a black SUV without a number plate and ran over Rajshekhar from behind while he was walking on the road. He died on the spot, according to the police.Investigators subsequently uncovered the alleged conspiracy and arrested Ashwini, Kallur and the other accused, including the minor, police said.
