Meanwhile, the family of Sameer, who was taken into custody for questioning, has appealed for a fair investigation, citing his medical condition and family circumstances.According to information shared by family members and details emerging from the investigation, Rehan and a minor boy travelled from Sonipat to Mumbai around 10 days before the incident. They were allegedly in contact with Anil Pandit. According to her, he met a man from Bihar during this period who told him about better earning opportunities in Gurugram.Sonipat police spokesperson ASI Ravinder Singh said an FIR was registered against Rehan at Baroda police station on August 19, 2026, in connection with the alleged illegal possession of a firearm. Following his arrest, Rehan remained in judicial custody for 14 days and was released on bail on September 5. His mother alleged that Aman, a resident of Gohana, contacted the family during the bail process and helped arrange Rs 3,000.Shamshida said Rehan went missing a few days after his release from jail. She alleged that an unidentified person had lured him with an offer of Rs 2 lakh in exchange for working for him. The family suspects that Rehan may have been misled into becoming involved in the firing incident. These claims have not been independently verified.Anil Pandit originally belongs to Rek Kalan village in Panipat district. According to reports, he allegedly came into contact with Harry Boxer after reaching the United States. Reports have also stated that 10 cases are registered against Anil in Panipat. Investigators are examining his alleged communications with Rehan and the circumstances surrounding the purported offer of overseas employment. The father of the minor boy said his son left home following a family dispute and went to stay with Aman. Available information suggests that Aman is facing a case in a separate matter allegedly involving the supply of illegal firearms. However, it has not been established that Aman planned the Mumbai firing or instructed the suspects. The identity of the minor is being withheld in accordance with legal safeguards.According to information emerging from the investigation, the suspects allegedly travelled by taxi from Mumbai to Surat after the firing and subsequently took a train to Kota and Jaipur. Three suspects were reportedly spotted in CCTV footage at Surat railway station. Investigators are examining their belongings, mobile phones and travel routes for further clues. Reports suggest that they may have planned to flee to Nepal. The investigation is also examining an alleged firing incident in Amritsar around a month and a half earlier, reportedly intended to intimidate a businessman, as well as claims that Rehan offered another young man, identified as Ritik, money and employment abroad. No link between these alleged incidents and the Mumbai case has yet been established. The Special Task Force (STF) took Sameer into custody for questioning in connection with the case. His mother, Manju, said her son was 14 years old in 2021 when his kidneys became impaired. He has reportedly been suffering from kidney disease since then and is currently studying in Class XII. The family claims that his daily routine has remained limited to school and home.Sameer’s mother, Manju, and maternal aunt, Babli, have urged the police to consider his medical condition and daily activities while investigating the case. The family has sought an impartial probe based on CCTV footage from their home, school records and information from neighbours.
