Double murder in Mundra linked to illicit affair

Rajkot: A long-running dispute linked to suspicions of an extramarital affair ended in the deaths of two men in Mundra, Kutch, on Monday evening. Police registered cross-complaints alleging murder and launched an investigation into rival accounts of the violence. The deceased were identified as 42-year-old Jaypalsinh Sarvaiya and Prakash Suthar.Police said the dispute centred on friction between Jaypalsinh and Shankar alias Vijay Gadhvi, a former driver in Jaypalsinh’s travel firm.Gadhvi allegedly suspected that his wife, Jyoti, was involved in a relationship with his former employer. A year ago, Gadhvi moved to Adipur with his parents after failing to persuade his wife to leave Mundra, though tensions between the two men continued. The clash took place around 7pm when Gadhvi and his associate, Prakash Suthar, were travelling on a motorcycle to Kalapurna Society to visit Gadhvi’s daughter. They encountered Jaypalsinh, who was riding a scooter. The two sides gave different accounts of what followed. In his complaint, Gadhvi alleged that Jaypalsinh stopped their motorcycle and attacked him with a knife. Suthar intervened, leading to a scuffle. Suthar suffered a fatal wound to his left thigh, while Gadhvi suffered wounds on his forehead and hands. In the counter-complaint, Jaypalsinh’s brother, Hardevsinh Sarvaiya, alleged that Gadhvi and Suthar stopped Jaypalsinh’s scooter, began an argument and attacked him with knives. He further alleged that Gadhvi picked up a stone and struck Jaypalsinh on the head while he was lying on the road. Jaypalsinh was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Hardevsinh said a video circulating on social media supports the allegation and shows Gadhvi hitting his brother with a stone while he lay on the road.Mundra police are investigating both complaints to determine how the violence began and establish the sequence of events.
