Belagavi: Ahead of Kittur Utsav, the statue of queen Kittur Channamma, located beside the national highway in Kittur town, was damaged. The statue’s right arm, which held a sword, has broken off, causing concern among locals. The incident came to light on Monday afternoon and the taluk administration took immediate action.It is suspected that the damage may have occurred due to an oversight by daily-wage workers who were using a lift to clean the area near the statue.The taluk administration, as a precautionary measure, has covered the statue with a cloth.Bailhongal DSP Veerayya Hiremath visited the site to inspect the damage. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Kittur police station.
