Ahmedabad: A pregnant woman approached Abhayam helpline after her husband allegedly began demanding her salary. “The woman and her husband work with reputed IT firms. She earns around Rs 80,000, while his salary is Rs 2 lakh a month. They have been married for three years. According to her statement, she gave Rs 25 lakh of her savings to buy their joint home. Even then, the husband demanded half of her salary towards domestic expenses,” said a counsellor.The woman alleged that demands for money started after her father, a retired magistrate, died. “She alleged that recently, she had to request a friend to pay for a taxi ride after the husband refused. She had forgotten to transfer money in her account, and hence could not pay the cab driver. As the demands for her money continued, the woman, four months pregnant, decided to seek help,” the counsellor said.The woman wanted to return to her parents’ home, but the husband assured the team of talking the matter out and ensuring that she does not feel alienated in family or financial matters.
