Bengaluru: Sunday began on a pleasant note for Bengalureans, with light drizzle and cloudy skies keeping temperatures cool across the city. However, the rain largely subsided by the afternoon, allowing residents to step out after three consecutive days of wet weather. While Bengaluru has witnessed evening showers over the past three days, Sunday remained relatively calm. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 9.8mm of rainfall on Saturday. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain in Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural over the next six days, accompanied by winds of 30-40 kmph. Heavy rainfall is also expected on Monday.Saturday evening’s rain led to slow-moving traffic on several roads, particularly in central Bengaluru. Many residents visiting Durga Puja pandals reported difficulties booking cabs and autos, with surge pricing adding to their woes.Areas such as Panathur underpass, stretches near Electronics City flyover, Varthur and parts of central Bengaluru witnessed waterlogging. Apart from traffic congestion, residents reported instances of fallen trees and branches in a few localities.A key concern flagged by citizens was the condition of internal roads where utility works are under way. In several parts of central Bengaluru, BWSSB pipeline works have left roads muddy and slushy, making movement difficult for both pedestrians and motorists.A resident of Siddapura in East Bengaluru told TOI, “Not only the main roads, but even the ward roads are damaged now. BWSSB is carrying out road works, and we had requested them to level the mud after completing the work, but they did not listen. Now that it is raining, all vehicles are getting stuck in the slush. Luckily, it is Sunday. If it had been a working day, it would have been very difficult for us to step out of our homes and reach the main roads.”
