Prayagraj railway stations introduce healthy, fusion food stalls
Chheoki railway station of Prayagraj

Prayagraj: Railway passengers will soon have more than the usual samosa, tea and puri-sabzi options at Prayagraj Junction and Prayagraj Chheoki stations, with NCR’s Prayagraj division planning three ‘innovative catering’ stalls offering a mix of modern, healthy and fusion food. The stalls will come up at platforms 1 and 7/8 of Prayagraj Junction and platforms 3/4 of Prayagraj Chheoki. The initiative is aimed at catering to changing food preferences of passengers while providing hygienic and quality food during their journey.Among the unusual offerings will be truffle pani puri, prepared through an automatic machine with an emphasis on hygiene. The stalls will also offer popular light snacks such as Bengali jhal muri, chana jor, masala corn and roasted gram, providing passengers with quick options for short journeys. The catering outlets will particularly focus on ‘Shri Anna’ or millet-based food for health-conscious travellers. The menu will include ragi pizza, jowar momos, bajra khichdi and millet-crust pizza. The railway’s move comes amid growing demand for healthier alternatives at stations and is expected to add variety to the food available to passengers. For those looking for familiar regional flavours with a modern twist, the stalls will serve experimental versions of the traditional bati chokha, including bati chokha pizza, bati chokha paratha and pakodas. Fusion offerings such as paneer tikka and Korean kimchi momos will also be available, particularly targeting younger travellers. The initiative follows the railway’s recent efforts to diversify food options at stations. Last month, NCR introduced its first rail coach restaurant at Prayagraj Chheoki, where a decommissioned coach was converted into a dining facility, offering passengers a distinctive railway-themed dining experience.PRO, Prayagraj division, Amit Kumar Singh, said, “The new stalls are intended to combine convenience, variety and hygiene, allowing passengers to choose from regional, contemporary, healthy and fusion dishes while travelling through Prayagraj.”
