Belagavi: The Dharwad bench of the Karnataka high court has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on a petitioner for allegedly furnishing incorrect information in a habeas corpus petition filed in connection with a missing youth from Belagavi district. The case relates to Akash Raymane, 28, of Nasalapur village in Raibag taluk, who was reported missing by his brother Amar Raymane at the Market Police Station on Oct 10. Following the complaint, police registered an FIR and examined CCTV footage as part of the investigation.Subsequently, a habeas corpus petition was filed before the Dharwad bench, naming the chief secretary, police commissioner and the Market police inspector as respondents. Given the seriousness of the allegations, the matter was taken up for urgent hearing before Justice M Nagaprasanna on Thursday.Market police inspector JM Kalimirchi appeared before the court on behalf of the Belagavi police, while govt counsel presented details of the investigation. During the hearing, Akash himself appeared and informed the court that he had voluntarily gone to Dharwad for personal reasons, and had not been unlawfully detained. After examining the facts, Justice Nagaprasanna observed that the matter did not warrant a habeas corpus petition and held that misleading information had been furnished before the court. The petitioner was consequently fined Rs 10,000.
