Ranchi: The state health department would soon introduce Diplomate of National Board (DNB) courses in five district hospitals on a pilot basis to increase the availability of specialist doctors and improve healthcare services at the district level.Chairing a meeting on Tuesday, special secretary of the health department Neha Arora said, “Hospitals will be selected based on infrastructure, availability of medical faculty, outpatient department (OPD) facilities, operation theatres, lecture rooms, libraries, medical equipment and the number of major and minor surgeries performed. Each selected hospital must have at least two eligible faculty members, besides the necessary academic and clinical facilities.”The meeting also focused on strengthening emergency services at district hospitals. The department has sought reports from all districts on the availability of trauma centres, intensive care units (ICUs), and other critical care facilities. “Officials were directed to assess the possibility of converting 10-15% of available beds into ICUs and coronary care units (CCUs), depending on requirements. The need for additional critical care facilities and special newborn care units (SNCUs) will also be assessed,” she said.Arora also reviewed fund utilisation under several schemes run by the department and directed officials to complete pending procedures and ensure timely utilisation of allocated funds.Civil surgeons were asked to submit district-wise details of sanctioned and filled posts, along with the requirements for doctors and other personnel at various health facilities, by Friday.
