Nagpur: The 300-bed super-speciality hospital at Wathoda is gradually taking its final shape, with a substantial portion of construction completed. The ₹187.7 crore project is being executed by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT). Workers are giving finishing touches to the building while the next phase will be the installation of medical facilities, officials said. The project was originally scheduled for completion by March 14, 2026, after the work order was issued on March 15, 2024. However, the deadline has already passed, and NIT has not announced a revised completion date.According to NIT’s project status report, structural work up to the seventh floor has been completed. The hospital is being developed as a ground-plus-nine-storey building, with work on the remaining structural and internal components continuing. Granite flooring, electrification, plumbing and other finishing works are currently underway.Once completed, the hospital will house several specialised departments, including urology, nephrology, dialysis, pathology, bronchoscopy, physiotherapy, orthopaedics, paediatrics, gastroenterology, dentistry, radiology and general surgery. Cancer treatment facilities, including a dedicated cancer care unit, are also proposed. The project is expected to bring relief to residents of Wathoda and neighbouring areas, who have been awaiting advanced healthcare facilities closer to their homes. Once operational, the hospital will provide specialised treatment under one roof, reducing the need for patients to travel to govt hospitals in other parts of Nagpur. The project is being implemented under the guidance of NIT chairperson Sanjay Meena. The facility is expected to particularly benefit residents of Wathoda, Dighori, Kharbi, Nandanvan and other surrounding localities, where expanding residential settlements have increased demand for accessible healthcare services. While construction has made considerable progress, the next stage involves completion of the remaining building works, installation of medical equipment and preparation of essential hospital infrastructure. It is yet to be confirmed who will run the hospital once it is completed.
