Prayagraj: Left wing youth organisations Disha Chhatra Sangathan and Naujawan Bharat Sabha staged a protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) here on Saturday.Heavy police deployment, drone surveillance and cameras marked the security arrangements as Police personnel outnumbered protesters at the site. The protesters raised slogans against Election Commission and demanded Kumar’s resignation, cancellation of the SIR exercise and a return to ballot-paper voting.Anjali, a protester associated with Disha Chhatra Sangathan and Naujawan Bharat Sabha, said anger over the alleged deletion of names from electoral rolls had spread across the country. She said protests were being held from Delhi to Prayagraj and described the right to vote as a fundamental political right.Another protester, Pawan, questioned the transparency of the process of adding and deleting names from voter lists. He demanded that elections held in states after the SIR exercise be cancelled and conducted afresh using ballot papers instead of EVMs.
