Bhubaneswar: Members of Odisha-based organisations Nabanirman Krusak Sangathan (NKS) and Navanirman Yuva Chatra Sangathan (NYCS), along with around 100 supporters from Odisha and Delhi, joined the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, demanding accountability from Election Commission. The protest was led by NKS founder Akshaya Kumar and NYCS Odisha brass MD Manwar Ali, who accused Election Commission of failing to adequately address public concerns. Demonstrators raised slogans and sought answers from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, calling for greater transparency and accountability in the electoral process.According to the organisers, protesters continued their agitation despite police barricades erected at the venue. Delhi Police later detained several protesters, including Akshaya Kumar and MD Manwar Ali, in an effort to disperse the gathering. Two other protesters, Prasanna Kumar Pradhan (55) and Sairanjan Khatua (35), were also detained during the demonstration, organisers claimed. They strongly criticised what they termed an “undemocratic approach” towards peaceful protesters and expressed concern over what they described as the suppression of democratic voices. They maintained that peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic right guaranteed under the Constitution. The protest drew participation from youth members and activists who travelled from Odisha and Delhi to press for their demands. The organisations asserted that they would continue their campaign through democratic means and seek answers from Election Commission on issues they have raised.
