T’puram: Congress functionary K S Sabarinadhan has lodged a complaint with the Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner against BJP‘s R Sreelekha over her controversial remarks against leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, alleging personal abuse and hurt to religious sentiments. In his complaint, Sabarinadhan alleged that Sreelekha had personally insulted Gandhi and portrayed the ‘thandava‘ dance, associated with Hindu religious beliefs, as a form of agitation caused by drug consumption, thereby hurting religious sentiments. The controversy erupted after Sreelekha made the remarks while inaugurating a BJP protest meeting at Punalur in Kollam on Wednesday. Referring to Gandhi’s actions during a protest in Delhi, she allegedly said that what he was performing was a thandava after excessive drug consumption.Sabarinadhan had demanded that Sreelekha withdraw her remarks, warning that he would pursue legal action if she failed to do so. He subsequently approached the police commissioner with a formal complaint.Meanwhile, Youth Congress has also filed a complaint against Sreelekha over her remarks. State vice-president Vishnu Sunil Pandalam submitted the complaint to the DGP, seeking registration of a case against her.Home minister Ramesh Chennithala demanded that Sreelekha withdraw her remarks on Gandhi and apologise. “One day she says she will resign, and the next day she withdraws it. She seems to have some serious problem,” he said.He said Gandhi did not need Sreelekha’s approval to discharge his responsibilities as the leader of the opposition. He said the police would take further action if a complaint was received. .
