Hosapete (Vijayanagara): A third additional district and sessions court in Hosapete on Friday sentenced deputy range forest officer T Pampapathi Naik to five years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 6 lakh for accepting a Rs 600 bribe to return a seized mobile phone. The court ordered Naik to undergo an additional 12 months’ simple imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine. Syed Shabbir, a Tagginkeri Oni resident in Koppal, was allegedly asked to pay Rs 1,000 to secure the release of his tipper after Naik claimed its permit was fake. When Shabbir said he did not have the money, Naik seized his mobile phone and later demanded Rs 600 to return it. Lokayukta police caught Naik accepting the bribe on July 23, 2014. Hosapete Lokayukta inspector V Mahantesh investigated the case and filed the chargesheet.
