Koppal: Deputy commissioner Suresh B Itnal has directed officials to ensure mandatory registration of homestays and grant approvals in accordance with tourism department guidelines to promote tourism in the district.At a meeting of the district tourism development committee organised by the tourism department, Itnal said 11 of the 39 applications received for homestay registration had been approved after documents were verified as per prescribed rules and guidelines.Officials were asked to scrutinise pending applications, including those with incomplete documents, and dispose of them at the earliest.Itnal also directed officials to complete various tourism development works in the district within the stipulated time. He asked them to submit proposals under the Kalyana Karnataka initiative for development of the Ashoka inscription, Palkigundu inscription and Kinnal art.Officials were also directed to develop major tourist destinations across the district and take necessary measures to conserve and protect heritage sites.
