Jhansi: Uttar Pradesh Police Director General (Railways) Prakash D on Wednesday inaugurated a newly constructed Government Railway Police (GRP) station building in Jhansi, built at a cost of over Rs 5 crore. He called for stronger coordination among railway security agencies.Addressing the inauguration ceremony on October 14, Prakash said passenger safety, protection of their belongings and railway tracks remained the primary responsibilities of the GRP. He urged officials to work in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and other law enforcement agencies to strengthen security and control crime. He identified theft of passengers’ belongings, stone-pelting on trains, placing objects on railway tracks and drugging unsuspecting passengers to rob them as key challenges. He advised passengers to not accept food or drinks from strangers and to not leave their belongings unattended. People should immediately inform the nearest police station or RPF post about any unattended suspicious object, he said.Prakash said the department was following the state govt’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime and criminals. He also highlighted crowd management as a major challenge, citing the successful handling of passenger movement during the 2025 Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, when more than 5.5 crore people travelled to the city by train and returned safely after taking a holy dip.The DGP asked GRP personnel to ensure that the quality of their functioning matched the new building’s standards, stressing timely grievance redressal and courteous public service.
