Congress targets Asad over exclusion of over 9 lakh voters

Hyderabad: Congress in-charge for Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency Mohammed Waliullah Sameer on Saturday said that about 9 lakh of the 23 lakh voters in the constituency had been excluded from the draft electoral rolls during the SIR of electoral rolls. He slammed the AIMIM for making tall claims of protecting all genuine voters, alleging that 9 lakh electors had been placed on the absent, shifted, dead and duplicate (ASDD) list and did not figure in the draft roll published on Aug 17. Sameer said the seven assembly constituencies comprising the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat — Malakpet, Karwan, Goshamahal, Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura and Bahadurpura — had a combined pre-SIR electorate of 23.29 lakh. Of them, 9.19 lakh electors, or about 39.46%, were placed in the ASDD category and did not figure in the draft roll.He said Yakutpura recorded the highest number of exclusions at 1,54,982, followed by Chandrayangutta with 1,48,869 and Malakpet with 1,47,799. Karwan recorded 1,41,766 exclusions, followed by Bahadurpura with 1,21,350, Goshamahal with 1,10,148 and Charminar with 94,174. “AIMIM’s tall claims of helping voters retain their names on electoral rolls during the SIR exercise have fallen flat. AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi should come clear on what he is doing about the 9 lakh voters placed on the ASDD list,” Sameer demanded. He said the sharp reduction in the draft electoral roll should have become the single biggest political issue for the sitting Hyderabad MP. “If almost 40% of the electorate in a parliamentary constituency disappears from the draft roll, what could be a bigger issue for its elected MP?” he asked.
