Daltonganj: A 28-year-old homeless woman gave birth to a baby boy in the parking area of Daltonganj railway station on Monday evening, creating a commotion amid heavy passenger movement.Station Superintendent Umesh Kumar said, “The woman, Sangita Devi, was not a passenger but had been living in and around the station premises. The delivery took place around 6 pm in the crowded parking area.”Railway personnel, including women staff, rushed to assist her. With 108 ambulance services reportedly unavailable due to an ongoing strike, she was transported to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), about 2 km away, in a battery-operated rickshaw.Senior gynaecologist Dr SS Horo said both the mother and the newborn were in stable condition. “The umbilical cord was clamped and cut properly, and both are doing well,” he said.According to sources, the child is Sangita’s third. Her husband, Firoz Ram, died about a month ago. Originally from Sonepurwa village in Garhwa district’s Meral block, she had been living at the railway station with her family after being pushed into extreme poverty.Railway sources said she supported her children through begging around the station area, which had effectively become her home.
